All the elements in a layout must work together if a communication is going to do its job. The layout and everything in it must be in harmony. This is achieved in three ways: harmony of shapes, harmony of types and harmony of tones. Shape harmony relates to proportion.  It's focus is the general structure of the elements in a design. This simply means they all follow the same general shape or format. "______________ harmony" means the letter designs selected should cooperate and blend together and not set up visual discord. Tone harmony refers to the weights and designs of elements. Bold illustrations and bold type harmonize. Ornamental images and ornamental type go well together.
